The Voice of One Crying in the Wilderness
The voice of one crying in the wilderness
“REPENT! REPENT!
FOR THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS AT HAND!”
John the Baptist knew
that he was not worthy
to loose His sandal
that he must decrease
while Christ must increase
that his death was imminent
it didn’t matter
when quiet mouths do we enter a day
without a thank-you
or a word of praise
still greedily taking chunks
of God’s air into our lungs
if we think we are safe
and secure
John spit out this
cold admonishment,

“For I tell you God is able to raise children
to Abraham from these stones!”
(Luke 3:8)
