Your name is Mariamu
petite albino lady from Tanzania
i write not to disparage you
but to celebrate you
you spread your magic
and embraced my soul
without your two limbs
hacked off by witch doctors
who peddled your ivory arms
for superstition and evil
who mutilated and murdered
many like you

i watched you on 20/20
a tower of a woman
flown to my country
for prosthetic limbs
only to cradle your son
again
i witnessed a vision
illuminated grace
the dishonour of your
humanity did not
disfigure the loveliness
the pulse to become whole
again

with anticipation
i applauded you
as you strapped on the arms
of liberty
you freed yourself from oppression
and brutality
the hatred of snow flesh

lifting your metal bones
as Praise to God
you twirled and danced
in riveted joy
smiling forgiveness
as you received your healing
i felt a healing come over me
as your dignity was restored
celebrating the unique flesh
the Lord has given you
to teach a world tolerance
of a beauty only Love understands
