The man from the Gadarenes

The Man From the Gadarenes
The man from the Gadarenes
glimpsed the Lord out of the corner
of a torn retina
let out a scandalous howl
took the stones
fueled by devils
sunrise to sunrise

The man from the Gadarenes
living a life under a full military siege
desecrating God’s image
with the blunt edges of rock

The man from the Gadarenes
limped towards salvation
under the crushing weight
of those heaviest of last steps
hindered by the demonic hisses

“your sins are too great!”

The man from the Gadarenes
bore the last minutes of
possession
cutting deeper into the saint
the devil’s wrath
a pathetic hurrah
as a disuasion
stomped
as dozens of demons
piled on him
gang-beaten
a baptism they knew
to be imminent

shoved the final stone up his
disfigured limb
but legion couldn’t leave his mark
on him

The man from the Gadarenes
was redeemed
adopted
and sealed
gashes that bled
on the Lord’s
spotless garment
two thousand years ago
briefly possessed
for a twinkling of a moment
in God’s righteous eye
he is praising God
for all eternity
before the Throne of Grace
The man from the Gadarenes
